Help Us Promote The Raw Vegan Lifestyle

Be The Best Version Of You

What Does Raw Vegan Mean Anyway?

The Raw Vegan Lifestyle will help you detoxify, heal, improve your overall health and energy levels, and set up a strong foundation to achieve your dreams.

By reducing and removing overly processed foods that contain additives, preservatives, oils, excess sugars, and all sorts of other unnatural additions out of your diet, you are doing wonders for your health. And by adding in more fresh plant-based food, especially green ones, fruits, nuts, sprouted grains and fermented foods is the best way to find optimal health.

In essence, the raw food diet is the eating of unprocessed, organic foods that have either not been cooked or cooked at temperatures that do not exceed 42 Celsius or 107 Fahrenheit.

The Raw Vegan Lifestyle Can Be A Fun Adventure

Educate Yourself

Many scientists and doctors agree that including more plant based foods in our diet by eating more naturally, more fresh, and filling our plates with a rainbow of foods is an invaluable way of achieving and maintaining optimal health.

However, it's important to note that not all foods should be eaten raw. This is why it is important to educate yourself and surround yourself with the right people. For Example: dangerous plants include raw red kidney beans, rhubarb leaves as well as yucca, eggplant (aubergine) and white potatoes, so do your homework.

What will I eat?

It’s no secret that we need fruits and veggies to be healthy, and tons of people are adopting a fully or mostly raw vegan diet.

Eating raw vegan means eating whole, uncooked foods in their natural forms—so nothing that’s processed, cooked, or salted. Being a raw vegan can be a fun and exciting adventure for your taste buds, as it introduces you to a ton of foods you may never even have heard of before.

A raw food diet is made up of fresh, whole, unrefined, living, plant foods: fruits, vegetables, leafy greens, nuts & seeds and even sprouted beans and legumes. All consumed in their natural state and at an ideal state to ingest without the use of cooking or steaming; these uncooked whole foods are both enzyme and oxygen rich.

Eating Raw

When we cook our foods, these natural enzymes can be destroyed by heat and are chemically and structurally altered sometimes creating acrylamides and other carcinogenic substances. This is especially true when using higher temperatures like frying, pasteurizing, canning, and processing.

By eating the majority of our food in it's raw and natural state, we are essentially preserving our foods' nutritional value that is often lost in the process of cooking. You don't need to be 100% raw 100% of the time to receive the benefits of raw foods. Lets just say the more raw, living foods you incorporate into your diet, the more you are going to see and feel the difference in your overall health!

Those who follow a fully raw lifestyle typically adhere to the “80/10/10 diet”: 80 percent carbs (fruits and vegetables), 10 percent fat (avocados, coconut, etc.), and 10 percent protein (nuts, seeds, etc.).

A Typical Day

The blender will soon become your best friend! One of the best ways to start your day is by having a large smoothie or smoothie bowl for breakfast. It can be made completely with fruit or with a combination of fruit and greens (like kale or spinach). Or you can make an açaí bowl, which involves blending frozen açaí with your favorite dairy-free milk and topping the mixture with yummy treats like coconut, cacao nibs, banana slices, chia seeds, and agave nectar.

For lunch, eating a big salad will be the best way for you to fill up and get all those nutrients. And when we say big, we mean BIG! You want to ensure that you’re still eating all the calories that your body needs to stay healthy. So add avocado, nuts, and seeds as well as lots of fresh veggies to your greens. Making your own salad dressing will add some extra pizzazz.

For dinner, You can make raw versions of your favorite foods, like lasagna, spaghetti, tacos, and even burgers!

SCRUMPTIOUS

Large salads with a nut or seed based dressing would be a great lunch or dinner option

Limited Only By Your Imagination

Fruit-based Raw Vegan

Here the majority of your caloric needs will come in the form of fruit since fruits are higher in carbohydrate calories which can help to sustain your energy and provide sufficient calories since vegetables are much lower in calories. A fruit based raw vegan lifestyle can help heal digestive issues and upsets since fruits are the easiest foods for the body to digest and eliminate because of their high fiber and water content.

Switching from a high protein cooked diet to a low protein fruit based diet can have both positive and negative effects on the body so take your time when transitioning. Being fruit-based raw vegan is not for everyone and can be difficult to sustain long term, but it can certainly help those who are suffering with their health.

High Protein Raw Vegan

Foods like leafy greens, vegetables, sprouted legumes, nuts, seeds, herbs and algae are actually very high in protein which can help you to buildup your body instead of experiencing intense detoxification as you may find from a fruit based diet.

Following this type of raw diet may be a little more complex since the bulk of your diet will come from leafy greens and vegetables so you will need to increase the volume of your meals to suffice your caloric needs. Large salads with a nut or seed based dressing would be a great lunch or dinner option for this type of diet.

Long term raw vegans tend to switch between a fruit based raw food diet and a high protein raw food diet throughout their healing journey especially to increase their caloric intake to make this sustainable long term.

"Gourmet” Raw Food

A "Gourmet” Raw Food Lifestyle is certainly delicious but it can be a little expensive and possibly hard to maintain. It contains processed* and dehydrated foods from nuts and seeds as a base along with refined "raw sugars" such as agave and chocolate for sweetness. (*Processed could mean chopping with a knife - the key is not overly-processed)

This is typically how newcomers to the Raw Vegan Lifestyle start out, however these types of foods are little more "heavy" due to the high fat content and can make you feel weighted down.

Treating yourself to raw burgers, raw tacos, raw pizzas, bags of nuts, loads of nut butters and tons of chocolate just to stay “raw” can certainly be done, however, isn't ideal or healthy long-term.

By switching from a high fat raw vegan diet to low fat / high carbs (from fruit) raw diet, you will notice improved digestion and increased energy.

“Raw Till 4”

“Raw Till 4” option recommends to follow a fruit based diet for breakfast and lunch during the day followed by a high carb cooked dinner at night. This could be a backup plan if you are starting out or have been 100% raw for some time. You could eat predominately fruit all day with a large green smoothie for extra nutrients, then maybe a large green salad and raw dressing or with some lightly steamed vegetables like bok choy, squash, purple potatoes or brocoli.

Which ever raw vegan diet you choose, it's important to keep it simple, nothing processed, nothing fake.

Optimum Health

Health and happiness are the best of friends and give you all the wealth you need.

Invest In Your Own Health

Supplementing Your Meals

Nutritional Supplements and Superfoods can all have a place in your diet if you feel you need them - and are not being used to mask a much deeper underlying deficiency within your body and / or why you are not absorbing that specific nutrient in the first place.

You can certainly eat a perfect diet full of organic fruits and vegetables and still not absorb all of the nutrients properly.  This depends on the current state of your body, what type of genetic weaknesses you face, and what lifestyle you are coming from - and is why detoxification of your body is so important so you can improve your absorption of the nutrients you consume.

Following the raw vegan lifestyle may seem restrictive in the beginning, however, when you start to get creative in the kitchen, and get the right tools you'll find that your meals can be fun and full of flavor. Once you get organized and educated, you will eventually take less time in the kitchen to prepare your food for the day, including cleanup (much less than for food that needs to be cooked).

You can warm your food up to approximately 118-120 degrees Fahrenheit without impacting its nutritional value, and consider purchasing a dehydrator and making chips, crackers or raw pizzas. Foods can warm up the body without being cooked. In the winter if you feel too cold, you can add ginger and cayenne to your foods to warm up the dish as well.

Fruits and vegetables are the foundation of the Raw Vegan Lifestyle but you can also eat sprouted grains, sprouted legumes, nuts, seeds, herbs, seaweeds, algae, nutritional yeast, and even chocolate on a raw food diet. Experiment with these foods to see which ones make you feel your best. There are tons of processed raw food treats and desserts popping up on the supermarket shelves and many tasty recipes are shared in our Raw Vegan Club Facebook group - join us!

Overcoming Limitations

Eating raw is not necessarily more expensive than eating cooked, and would depend on factors such as where you live, what you're eating, and the current season it is in your environment. Bananas are a good go to and there are so many other fruits and vegetables you can buy in bulk to get discounts like oranges, dates, mangoes, papaya, watermelon, avocados... you name it! Focus on eating fresh foods that are in season and local to you.

Also depending on where you live there may not be many raw food restaurants but have you ever heard of the salad bar? Learn how to get creative if you live in a city that doesn't offer many raw food options. Make one of your favorite raw salad dressings at home and bring it in a small mason jar to a restaurant and pour over a simple salad if you are meeting people out at a restaurant. Don't sacrifice your personal health goals at the expense of what other people think.

There is no need to pressure yourself to eat 100% raw 100% of the time. Feelings of guilt can lead to eating disorders and neurotic thinking patterns in attempts to achieve a "pure" diet. Just know that the more raw foods you eat, the more benefits you will receive.

Incorporating a high percentage of raw plant foods into your diet will greatly improve your overall health and wellbeing.
